Camp Wainui is attractively set in a sheltered valley, and offers an ideal base for activities, adventures, learning and 'time-out'.

Only 23 kilometres from Wellington city center, the trip to Te Papa or Parliament takes only about 30 minutes by road - except during "rush hour". The journey provides fine views of the harbour and of the Hutt Valley. Located at 203 Coast Road, Wainuiomata, the camp is less than 4 km South of the town's shopping centre (with supermarket). And we are only 10km from Lower Hutt city center and hospital.

Camp Wainui provides for all types of groups requiring accommodation - from small groups to larger numbers. There are three accommodation areas - the Peter Burgess Lodge Complex; the Grattan Bushline Hut plus tent and caravan sites. more

Frequent users of the camp include schools, sports clubs, and church groups. We are also pleased to host regular community events and celebrations of all kinds.

Grounds: The larger part of the Camp's 240 hectares is clad in mixed native bush. There are several tracks through the bush for easy or more challenging hikes. Some tracks lead to the adjacent Rimutaka Forest Park. more details

There are also:

  • grassed fields for sporting activities and/or tenting
  • a lagoon for swimming or canoeing
  • a confidence course

Management: The camp is managed for the BB Camp Wainui Trust Board by our part-time management staff, Miria and John, who live on site with their family.  The trustees are volunteers with experience working with youth e.g. through serving as leaders in The Boys' Brigade.

We hope that when you come you will enjoy your stay at Camp Wainui.
